Abstract
As a crucial component of public transportation, air travel has always been a focal point for comprehensive control optimization. One of the most significant bottlenecks in the air traffic management system is the ground taxiing process, which substantially affects the operational efficiency of civil aviation public transport. This study proposes a novel approach that integrates a macroscopic basic map with airport operation management. The macro basic chart is a graphical representation of flight flow and resource usage, which visually displays flight numbers, takeoff and landing times, as well as parking space utilization. Through the use of the macro basic map, airport managers may gain a better understanding of airport operations, leading to the implementation of more effective management strategies. The objective of this research is to utilize the macroscopic basic map to represent the flight flow and resource utilization of the airport, and employ data analysis and modeling to enhance airport operation efficiency and profitability. To calibrate and verify the proposed method, historical data from Beijing Capital International Airport (ZBAA) were utilized. In this paper, a real-time control approach using a micro-simulated airport cellular automaton (ACA) is introduced to depict and predict the traffic and congestion dynamics of the airport ground network. The ACA model is employed to derive a network level macroscopic fundamental diagram (MFD) that captures critical demand-supply interactions by describing the aggregated behavior of network traffic in terms of average density and trip completion rate. The MFD model is then validated using empirical data, and aims to simplify the modeling process while still capturing the main dynamic characteristics of congestion. In general, the airport operation management based on the macro basic map may achieve the following benefits: improve the efficiency of airport operations, increase airport efficiency, enhance flight reliability and safety, optimize the utilization of airport resources and provide a better airport customer experience.
