Abstract
In this paper we report some experimental results concerning the characterization of the silicon guided-wave optical directional couplers and asymmetrical Mach-Zehnder interferometers from the transmitted spectrum in the 1480 - 1620 nm wavelength region. The experimental results were used for the evaluation of several parameters which define the above mentioned devices, like: the power coupling ratio, the perfect coupling length, the effective interaction length increment and the effective refractive indices, respectively. First, the experimental data were smoothed and fitted by a fourth order function in the case of waveguide directional couplers and a cosine type function in the case of asymmetrical Mach-Zehnder interferometers, respectively. Then, the evaluation of the above mentioned parameters was performed using the least-square method.
