Abstract

We report on the spectral transmittance and wavelength-dispersion properties of two-dimensional photonic lattices using holographic polymer dispersed liquid crystals (HPDLCs) and demonstrate their electrical control. A statistical thermodynamic model is employed to calculate spatial distributions of the formed polymer, liquid crystal molecules and the resultant anisotropic refractive index distribution under three-beam holographic exposure. The effect of multiple reflections inside an HPDLC film on the formed refractive index distribution is also taken into account in the theoretical analysis. Measured transmittance spectra and wavelength-dispersion angles are compared with the calculated results.
