Abstract
As discussed in Chapter 5, the MTF is the magnitude and the PTF is the phase of the complex OTF. For most components, the PTF does not change and the MTF equals the OTF. Some components exhibit phase reversal at certain spatial frequencies. Rather than plot both the MTF and PTF, for convenience the MTF is plotted with negative values when phase reversal occurs.
