Abstract
Absorption enhancement is very important to utilize solar energy in a sustainable way to reduce the excessive consumption of traditional energy resources. We propose a polarization-insensitive broadband one-dimensional grating absorber to investigate the absorption characteristics by using finite-difference time-domain simulations. Results show that the total weighted absorptions are above 98.91% for both TM and TE polarizations at normal incidence covering the whole visible regime. The absorption enhancements are attributed to the Brewster angle and the gradient refractive index for TM polarization and to the gradient refractive index for TE polarization.
