A 40-fold segmented coaxial HPGe detector was operated in a low background counting facility for 1 year to
experimentally evaluate background rejection efficiencies of proposed segmentation and pulse shape discrimination
techniques for the proposed Majorana double-beta decay experiment. Significantly diminished resolution for multisegment
events was encountered due to inter-segment cross-talk. A cross-talk correlation matrix has been constructed
allowing the restoration of acceptable energy resolution for multi-segment events. Efforts to determine the optimum
segmentation pattern for multi-site interaction events are ongoing.
