Profile Summary

Abi completed his BSc(Hons) in Physics from St.Stephen's College, Delhi, India and MSc Physics degree from the University College of Dublin (UCD), Ireland before undertaking his PhD in Physics at the University of Auckland (UoA). His PhD research involves integrated optical sensors to predict meat quality in real time. He joined the University of Auckland in February 2018 and work in collaboration with AgResearch and Dodd-Walls Centre for Photonic and Quantum Technologies.

Abi worked on magnetic nanoparticles for magnetic particle hyperthermia (MPH) applications at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Tiruchirapalli, India during his undergraduate research and worked on peptide nanotubes for energy harvesting application during his masters research at the nanoscale function group at UCD, Ireland. He was awarded the V.V Giri Global excellence award by UCD for his academic and research excellence. He gained experience in X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD), Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM), and Thermo-gravimetric Analysis (TGA) during his undergraduate research and experience in Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Piezo - response Force Microscopy (PFM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Raman Spectroscopy, Optical Microscopy, Optical Tensiometer system and Sputtering deposition of gold and chromium electrodes during his masters research.

Currently he is working on optical Coherence Tomography to predict the quality of meat in real time under the supervision of Dr. Frederique Vanholsbeeck (UoA), Dr Sam Hitchman and Dr.Cameron Craigie (Agresearch).
