Abstract
We extend a previous analysis of the influence of stochastic amplifying and scattering mechanisms on the transfer of signal modulation and photon noise to include the simplest case of nonlinear film grain response, namely that associated with 2-quantum threshold. This special case allows an exact analytical solution for radiographic screen-film noise as a function of quantum exposure level. The solution has been derived under the assumption of a uniform checkerboard array of grains.
