Abstract
The measurement of the bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF) is difficult due to the high dimensionality and complexity. The quantification of this function requires costly facilities, named gonioreflectometers, and long measurement times due to the great number of possible combinations between incoming and outgoing directions and additionally wavelengths.

We introduce a method for fusing directional information acquired from two different detectors, a spectrometer and a photodiode. The goal is to combine the strength of each one for a specific dimension of the BRDF without drastically extending the acquisition times. For that purpose the spectrometer delivers the spectral information and the photodiode highly directional monochromatic information of the reflectance function. This method is applied to a coated metal sheet in the visual and near infrared spectral regions, where monochromatic measurements are combined with spectral ones to get higher information densities.
