Abstract
To provide cataract patients with better visual outcomes after surgery, an achromatic EDoF IOL based on folding and diffraction mixing was investigated. First, the faceted shape of the IOL and the specific functions achieved are described. Then, a diffraction surface sub-region design method linked with the pupil size is proposed. Finally, a nine-region achromatic extended depth-of-focus IOL was designed using this method. The design results showed that the MTF values (50 lp/mm) were higher than 0.35 for 0° to 8° field of view and all object distances (0.25 m to infinity) in compound light at a pupil diameter of 3 mm. When the pupil changes from 2 mm to 5.5 mm, the MTF value (50 lp/mm) remains higher than 0.2 for all object distances in the 0° field of view. At a pupil diameter of 4 mm and an object distance of 2 m, the vertical chromatic aberration of the maximum field of view in complex light was within the Avery spot, and the results were consistent for other object distances. From the above analysis, it can be concluded that the designed IOL achieves well the function of extending the depth of focus, eliminating chromatic aberration, and further expanding the visual field.
