Abstract
Recent research on Intelligent Reflecting Surface (IRS), a promising emerging technology, has shown significant potential in positioning and sensing. This paper provides an overview of the current status of the IRS technology, including theoretical research, performance analysis, localization algorithms, and the interaction between localization and communication. Furthermore, a IRS-based single base station localization algorithm is proposed for single base station localization. The effectiveness of the algorithm is verified through simulations, demonstrating that sub-meter level localization can be achieved even under moderately favorable system parameter.
