Abstract
In our research, we obtained resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) data from 23 newly diagnosed, drug-free Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) patients and 20 age- and sex-matched healthy controls (HC). We examined Amplitude of Low Frequency Fluctuation (Alff) and fractional Alff (fAlff) across various frequency ranges to assess frequency-specific neural modifications associated with MDD sufferers. The investigation was conducted across the entire brain, avoiding the limitations of seed-based approaches, which are constrained to predefined brain areas. We found that certain regions, particularly those with varying spatial patterns across frequencies like the medial prefrontal cortex, showed more pronounced abnormalities in specific frequency ranges. These findings suggest improved methods for detecting functional brain changes in MDD.
