Abstract
The objective of this paper is to make a comparison between some microwave transmission lines of interest for travelling wave electrooptic modulators. It concerns the structures using III-V semiconductors and in particular GaAs/GaAlAs heterostructures. We study the effects of different electrode geometries and epitaxial compositions on the performance of high speed electrooptic modulators. We point out show wave phenomena and their effects on the microwave characteristics. It appears that CoPlanar Strips (CPS), under microwave odd mode excitement, are the most interesting for high speed electrooptic modulation.
