Abstract
We show that a set of five coupled equations describing steady state single TEpq modegyrotron/CARM evolution reduce to a universally scaled set of three equations identical in form to thoseof the steady state high gain Compton regime free electron laser (FEL). We do this using theapproximation of slowly varying amplitude and phase over a cyclotron period and neglect space-chargeeffects. We also assume a thin annular beam concentric with a circular waveguide in the limitk,r,,< < 1, where k, is the perpendicular wavenumber and rL is the Larmor radius.
