Piezoelectric 1-3 composites are being considered for sensor and actuator applications in smart structures. For the coverage of large surfaces, low-cost fabrication techniques for producing these new materials in large size panels were developed. In-air electromechanical characteristics and in-water acoustical properties of these new 1-3 piezocomposite panels were evaluated to assess the effects of temperature, pressure and underwater explosive shock on their acoustical performance.
