Abstract
Our paper gives the results of pulsewidth characteristics of a self modelocked ring cavity Ti:sapphire laser which is simulated numerically by means of split step Fourier method. By taking account of the Kerr-lens effect quantitatively, we have been able to show that the Kerr-lens effect plays a dominant role in the buildup of ultrashort pulse and its interplay with the total dispersion of the cavity eventually determines the pulse duration.
