Abstract
The potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) crystals are used as key components in high power density solid-state laser for Inertial Confinement Fusion. The KDP crystal components are larger and have higher damage thresholds than those manufactured for other laser systems so that the single point diamond turning method is adopted to finish large KDP crystal plates. In this paper the defects of turning KDP crystals are presented. And the corresponding error sources are discussed respectively. Based on the analysis of the defects, the turning parameters can be adjusted to meet the critical requirements of high energy density application.
