Abstract
The purpose of research on semantic image retrieval is to fill the significant gap between images' low-level vision features and users' high-level semantics. The image semantics' description and extraction are two key issues. We suggest an approach of GIS Semantics-Based Remote Sensing Image Retrieval (GISSBIR), involving spatial object semantic representation, spatial object semantic matching and the extension of spatial relationships. Object-oriented GIS semantic model and concept semantic network are employed to express the semantics of spatial objects. We also design a semantic mediator to handle with the semantic discordance between user and the system, and extend the direction's spatial relationship of Oracle 9i Spatial. By applying Boolean calculation upon the results of GIS atomic retrieval, vector retrieval results can be obtained, based on which we shall be able to find the remote sensing image retrieval's outcome that has the same coordinate frame with GIS data. The effectiveness of this GISSBIR approach is proved by actual experiments.
