Abstract
Robust image partitioning technique with limited space-time requirement is crucial for real-time high-resolution mobile imaging applications. Simultaneous handling of color components is a stumbling block in segmentation of color image. This paper presents a strategy for segregating multi-dimensional complexity that resembles human visual perception. First-order regions are developed employing the distribution of base color (hue) creating meaningful partitions of the image. Each region being self-contained can be transmitted independently. Further segmentations on each hue region can be done concurrently with respective local distributions of saturation (S). Finally, each of the subregions can undergo a third-order segmentation based on intensity (I) distribution at local level. Experiments indicate that the segregation process improves throughput and quality of segmentation. Self-contained partitions are convenient for multi-host image sharing as well as progressive reconstruction of images in the receiver.
