12 January 2012 Roadside curb detection based on fusing stereo vision and mono vision

Abstract
Detecting roadside curb is a challenging research topic for stereo vision, as the curb is only 10-30cm higher than the road surface and the difference between the curb and road surface is usually interfered by the noise in the disparity map. In this paper, a roadside curb detection algorithm integrating the advantages of stereo vision and mono vision is proposed. At first, the rough results are detected from the disparity varied curve and then sign filters are used to get quite robust results. At last, the curb lines are estimated by using weighted Hough transform. Experimental results show that this algorithm can detect the roadside curb fast and effectively.
