Abstract
Sensor fusion techniques are currently being investigated for potential application to a variety of smart weapon systems. Primary sensor candidates include active and passive millimeter wave as well as active and passive infrared configurations. Improved overall dual-mode sensor performance must be carefully traded off with hardware complexity, packaging challenges, and increased costs associated with the sensor fusion process. An additional factor of significance is the selection of sensor geometry, side-by-side, or common aperture.
