High power and high beam quality 2μm mid-infrared laser based on holmium doped lithium yttrium fluoride (Ho: YLF). Combine with gain switching technology, it can obtain stable short pulse width 2μm pulsed laser. Based on the Ho3+ energy level theory, through the analysis of the rate equation of the Ho: YLF quasi two-level system and the relevant parameters of the laser, the theoretical models of relaxation oscillation mode and gain switching mode under continuous pumping are established. In the experiment, 1940nm thulium (Tm3+) doped fiber laser is the pump source. Designed the structure of a semi confocal resonator with the flat-concave stable cavity. Under the 40W continuous optical pump, the optical efficiency is 30% and the slope efficiency is 76%. Under the same power, pulse pump the laser relaxation oscillation curve, and by compressing the pump pulse width the first pulse of relaxation oscillation is extracted. The relaxation oscillation and pulse image can well correspond to the theoretical model. The pulse parameters are 2050nm laser output with a pulse width of 2μs and single pulse energy of 500μJ.
