Evaluating the visual quality of displays that are viewed through augmented (AR), mixed (MR), and virtual reality (VR) headsets or smart glasses requires visual testing from the vantage point of the user. The human pupil size, position, and field of view inside the headset determines the viewing experience and impacts perceived brightness, clarity, focus, color, aberration, and defects. Test and measurement systems therefore require specific optical designs to replicate the viewing distances and visual constraints of head-mounted display devices to ensure effective evaluation of qualities visible to the user. The award-winning AR/VR Lens from Radiant Vision Systems was specially engineered with aperture characteristics that simulate the approximate size, position, and field of view of the human eye within head-mounted devices. Radiant's AR/VR Lens is quickly implemented in automated production testing for accurate and efficient evaluation of in-headset displays and projections. In this video, Jessy Hosken, Product Engineer at Radiant, will demonstrate how a high-resolution ProMetric® Imaging Colorimeter paired with AR/VR Lens and TT-ARVR™ Software enables rapid visual inspection of AR/VR displays. Using this solution, visual display characteristics are imaged simultaneously across 120° H by 80° V from the eye position, enabling complete analysis in under a minute. Viewers of this demo will learn about Radiant's turnkey solution for in-headset display testing and see automated test sequences performed to evaluate AR smart glasses for a range of visual performance criteria (brightness, color, contrast, MTF, focus uniformity, distortion, field of view, and more).
