The Sundaram Group at Alfred University is interested in fundamental research and technology development, which involve photon-matter interplay that covers a broad range (visible to THz) of frequencies in the electromagnetic spectrum. This includes research, development, design, and demonstration of passive as well as active optical materials, components, devices, and technologies. It is interdisciplinary research cutting across physics, optics, chemistry, biology, and materials science and engineering. Major areas of interests are:
THz/Millimeter waves emission/transmission/ modification/ detection/diagnostics of materials, devices, and processes
LWIR materials, devices, and integration
Ultrafast (e.g. femtosecond) materials science & engineering
Multi-scale materials processing/nanophotonics
Live-cell spectroscopy for nanotoxicity/nanomedicine
