Production quantities of magneto-optical quadrilayer disks have been produced using an in-line pallet sputtering system. Properties of the disks were studied for different pallet positions. T he results revealed only minor disk-to-disk and pallet-to-pallet variations in reflection and transmission. Byte-error rates as low as 3x10-6 were achieved. Excellent read/write characteristics of the media with an average carrier to noise ratio (CNR) of better than 57 dB at the outer and better than 48 dB at the inner radii have been demonstrated at a frequency of 3.7 MHz. The disks performed well in MO-drives of the major manufacturers.
